Smoothie Power!
Bet you’ve never heard of a “green strawberry” smoothie! Well, actually, the strawberries aren’t green – it’s the kale that’s green. The strawberries are red, ripe and delicious.
There’s Kale Growing In The Garden
Right now in our garden the kale is a growin’. We still have tomatoes coming on but almost everything else is on the way out. But, not greens – they love this time of year in the Bay Area. Greens like kale and spinach and all leafy greens for that matter are sooo good for us. They are a great source of chlorophyl and also are high in calcium. So, a great way to get “our green fix’ is by using them in smoothies. Of course, you will use greens that are mild tasting in your smoothies and not use something strong like arugula unless, of course, you like arugula smoothies.
One Of My Favorite Smoothie Recipes
One of my favorite smoothies is made with fresh strawberries and kale. Actually, frozen strawberries will work well too.
Here is my recipe:
- 1 or 2 handfuls of kale, either curly or the dino kale
- 1 cup strawberries
- 1 ripe banana
- 1/2 cup pineapple chunks, fresh, canned or frozen
- 1/4 cup raw almonds
- 1 1/2 cups coconut milk
- sweetener to taste if you want it sweeter (I like to add stevia to mine)
Put all these ingredients in your blender, preferably a high-powered one like one of the Best Blendtec Blenders. The high-powered blenders can handle the greens and the nuts and make a smooth and creamy smoothie. If you don’t have one of these, blend until you get a good creamy consistency. This is a nutritious breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack – whenever you want something delicious and nutritious.
