Eating healthy and how we do that is really all about choices. A lot of how we eat is about how we were raised and the type of foods our parents fed us. This has shaped our taste buds. I know that while I was growing up, I didn’t think about what was good for me but what I cared about was whether I liked how it tasted or not. So, those were the foods I tended to crave – the ones that tasted good to me.
Decisions
As we become adults, those choices and decisions about food become ours and no longer our parent’s. I know that I came to a place where I started to be able to tell the difference in my body when I ate something that was junk food and something that was healthy for me. When I ate processed foods and sugar, sugar, sugar, I started to feel depleted and tired. My energy level became low and my immune system became weak. This is what happens when our bodies don’t get what they need. I came to a place where I made the decision to make a change in my diet and start eating healthy.
A Few Things to Share About Eating Healthy
I have a few things that I’ve learned about eating healthy that I want to share with you.
- Add plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. Especially in their raw state, they are full of energizing enzymes. Enzymes are necessary in the function of our bodies and food enzymes can increase our energy or the lack of them can deplete our energy.
- Avoid processed foods that are high in calories and full of trans fats and chemicals. Those things totally weaken the function of our systems because they offer very little nutrition and leave us weakened and susceptible to many health issues.
- Eat a healthy diet of all food groups in their most natural state. This will help us fight and prevent disease because these foods are high in nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins. The latest buzz word for this is called “eating clean” or basing your diet on whole, unprocessed and unrefined foods. Whole foods will keep us satisfied longer because they supply what our bodies need.
- And lastly – Eating healthy just gives us a boost in the energy department. The choices we make to eat the foods that are healthy for us, will allow us to have enough energy so we won’t be too wiped out to do the things we need to do and also to do those additional activities that we really enjoy.
